Belonging Starts with how we Treat Each Other.

Football brings us together, and every person involved helps shape the experience our young players have.

Players bring their effort, courage and enthusiasm. Coaches give their time, knowledge and care. Parents make the journeys, offer encouragement and help children navigate the highs and lows. Administrators work behind the scenes to organise the opportunities we enjoy. Referees take responsibility for a difficult job, making decisions in real time so the game can happen.

We all see the match from a different position. We will not always agree. But we share a responsibility to make football a place where people feel respected, supported and welcome.

That responsibility shows in small moments. How we respond to a misplaced pass. How we speak when a decision goes against us. How we welcome a new family. How we thank the people setting up the fields or staying behind after everyone else has gone.

Our children notice those moments. They learn from the example we set, particularly when we are frustrated or disappointed.

We can compete wholeheartedly, hold high standards and ask fair questions while treating each other with kindness. We can remember that the person in front of us is also learning, giving their time or doing their best under pressure.

At Houston Bluebonnets, we want that shared responsibility to be part of our identity. Whatever our role, we have something valuable to contribute.

We are all in this together. Let’s make the game better for each other, one interaction at a time.
